Planting Zinnias
Zinnias are cheerful flowers offer a wide range of colors and are relatively quick to mature, providing blooms even when planted in late summer. Plus, they are easy to maintain and can even sometimes flower in as little as a few weeks!
How to plant + care for your Zinnia Flowers:
-
Choose an area with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
-
Prepare the soil by removing debris and raking the surface at least 3 inches deep to aerate the soil.
-
Plant 2-3 seeds per hole around 1/4" deep into the soil. Plant seeds about 8 inches apart
-
Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid overwatering, especially when seedlings are young.
Pro Tip!
It's easy to save zinnia seeds. Simply let the flowers dry fully on the stem, then collect the seedheads and lightly crush them in your hand to release next year's seed crop. Store in a cool, dry place as you do other seeds.
I hope that as you plant these flowers and watch them bloom you are reminded of all the "business seeds" you have already planted and continue to plant in the relationships you build, the value you create, and the way you show up in your community. Be proud of the difference you’re making, and keep planting those seeds—the harvest will be worth it.
